When Caroline first inquired with me to photograph her and Josh’s wedding I have to say I immediately began to pray for snow. I’ve always wanted to photograph a snowy wedding and the wedding that Caroline was planning was meant for snow. Caroline and Josh were married on December 9, 2017 at Mount Ida Farm in Scottsville, Virginia (just south of Charlottesville). The day before their wedding, Charlottesville was forecasting 6 inches of snow and to say everyone was a little on edge is an understatement!
Thankfully, the snow didn’t stick too badly to the roads so all the vendors and guests were able to get to Mount Ida easily. It did stick to the trees and grass in a way that made everything look like a winter wonderland! Caroline and Josh shared a first look outside as the snow flakes fell. Their portraits are some of my all-time favorites…not just because of the snow but because of how happy and in love they were. It was such a joyful day!
Their ceremony and reception were in the Event Barn at Mount Ida. The ceremony was dimly lit with just candles, a fireplace, and a chandelier for light. The fire made the whole room feel so warm and cozy – a welcome break from the snowy cold weather outside! The reception was lit with string lights, making the dining hall look like a movie. After dinner and the cake cutting, Caroline & Josh danced the night away with their guests to the music of Affirmative Groove.
Caroline wore a custom Anne Barge taffeta ball gown with lace 3/4 length sleeves purchased at Richmond’s best bridal boutique, Annalise Bridal. Her veil was borrowed from her best friend and sister-in-law, Carrie. The bridesmaids wore floor-length black taffeta gowns by Alfred Sung. The groomsmen wore black tuxes with green and black plaid pocket squares. These two couldn’t have asked for a more perfect snowy-winter wedding. It was an honor to be a part of it. Congratulations, Caroline & Josh!
