I have had the insanely amazing honor to second shoot for some pretty amazing photographers over the past several weeks at some truly beautiful weddings. Not only have I learned a incredible amount about photography and weddings but also about life, Jesus, and faith. Editing these images from the past several week has been a dream and even though I can’t share these images quite yet, I am DYING to!
For today’s post though, I want to get a little personal and talk about doubt…I hope you’ll go there with me for a minute. I’m pretty sure doubt is one of those feelings that every single person can relate to. We all experience doubt in ourselves, in our abilities, our intentions, our loved ones, and our God. But as I was taking this image of the sailboat sitting calmly roped to the dock, it made me think of James 1:6 in which he says, “But he must ask in faith without doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind”.
You see, James is trying to tell us that when we doubt who God is and His mighty power and love for us, we are like the surf, driven and tossed by the wind. Jesus is our “anchor”. He is our “dock”. The story of Jesus sleeping on the boat with his disciples is the perfect example of how we have such little faith in who God really is. In that crazy storm, the men were being tossed about in the boat, riven and tossed by the wind but when they woke Jesus, “he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.” (Matthew 8:26).
And so, friends, no matter where you are in your walk with Jesus – even if you’re not in a relationship with Him, know that He loves you, He has your back, and he will calm the storm, His purpose is real for you – all you have to do is accept His love and grace, and believe.
